Important First Steps

The first time you begin meeting with someone, it is vital that each person shares their story with each other.  If you are the one that is discipling, make sure that you are able to ask clarifying questions while they are sharing their story to get a clear idea of where they are on their life journey.  

Another great resource is the Spiritual Journey Inventory by Robby Gallaty. Below are some important questions to ask in those first meetings.  Some of these questions will apply, others may not.

1. After coming to the Lord, I finally understood _________________________. 
2. The closest I have felt to God in my life was _________________________. 
3. The farthest I felt from God was _________________________. 
4. If I could change one incident in my life it would be _________________________. Why? 
5. One incident in my life that I would never change would be _______________________. Why? 
6. The turning point in my relationship with God was _________________________. Why?
