Understanding Psalms: Context, Emotion, and Praise

6 - 7:15 p.m. 12- Week Study The book of Psalms has been treasured by God’s people throughout history—from ancient Israel to the early church and believers today. Yet, despite its beauty and popularity, it can also be confusing due to its intense emotional contrasts, diverse authorship, and cultural distance. Written over a millennium in poetic form, the Psalms include both heartfelt praise and raw cries of anger or despair. Understanding its background, context, and purpose helps us appreciate its depth and enrich our worship. This study aims to provide that foundation, so the Psalms become even sweeter and more meaningful.
