R. J. Ferguson, MAMFT, LPC

Associate Counselor

RJ is a Longview native, a happy husband to Chelsea and father of three children Norah, Oliver and Sayer. RJ cares deeply about the role of spirituality, relationship with God and the inner work of self-discovery. He is a Christian counselor who appreciates the beautiful mystery, complexity, and uniqueness of each person. He views each person’s struggle in light of a spiritual journey and believes transformation occurs in relationship. RJ works with skeptics to the Christian faith and is sensitive to those who experience great doubt and have different cultural/religious perspectives. In light of his own spiritual journey, he recognizes that there are depths to himself he has yet to explore and remains humbled by God’s faithfulness and in awe of His love.

RJ is a licensed professional counselor who specializes in treatment of trauma and attachment and has experience working with depression, anxiety, marriage and family conflict, ambivalent young adults and adolescent stage of life issues. As for education, he has a Master’s of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Letourneau University.

RJ’s training and experience extends to well-regarded contemporary approaches including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-oriented treatment approach to healing the damaging effects of trauma and developmental wounds. He trains regularly on the impact and treatment of trauma and attachment wounds on children, adolescents, adults, and the surrounding caregiving systems.  RJ has worked in private practice, intensive outpatient clinics, residential treatment for adolescents and has managed inpatient psychiatric units for children and adults. He believes collaboration is essential for good care and supports holistic and comprehensive treatment involving parents, family members, physicians, school personnel, psychiatrists, spiritual leaders and anyone else in a person’s support system.
